Notes

General Note
"It was my honor to know the remarkable man, some of whose boyhood stories appear in this book, during the last 40 years of his life when he was my father- in-law. He was born Joseph Leo Brown in 1893 in what was called Wild Cherry Canyon in the Canyon de Chelly. His mother was a Navajo of the T'a chini clan, and his father was Hopi. He grew up to be a clear-thinking man, whose character, leadership, and contributions to his community of Red Lake, Arizona, where he settled, were recognized in the 25 years he served as Red Lake chapter president. He lived to the age of 102, lucid to the end, enriching the lives of all around him"--Page 5.
